hey, i'm sam.
original hoosier,
current texan,
graphic designer.

I’m a recent grad of Southern Methodist University with a B.A. in Creative Advertising and Fashion Media and minors in graphic design and photography. I was a competitive swimmer for 14 years, until my recent retirement last February. Now I fill my time practicing as a baby yogi and exploring dry land.

In my short 23 years of life, I have come to realize a few things that are important to me.

First, creativity demands off-time. And it’s often in that off-time that creative problems are solved. For me, this has occurred many times at 5am as I’m doing laps along the same black line in the pool. As time has passed, I’ve found that any time my body is moving and my brain is seemingly on pause, it’s actually solving creative problems.

Second, empathy is one of the most important things  -professionally and personally. Through empathy, you can think of a brand as a person telling a story. Through that story, people - and therefore brands - can connect. And connecting to one another is one of the most inspiring things to me.

Third, when traveling anywhere new, go to a local grocery. I've found this is one of the best ways to get a sense for a community. And it's a good excuse to grab a snack.

With all of that, I'm continually looking to explore and adapt, while adding to my small list. I've lived (at least briefly) everywhere from my home state of Indiana to Dallas, NYC, and Arkansas, and look forward to adding to the list.
